Phichol

פִּיכֹל/FY-kol/

Mouth of all (possibly a title meaning grand vizier)

Summary

Phichol was the commander of the army of Abimelech, king of the Philistines at Gerar, who witnessed covenants with both Abraham and Isaac.

Military Commander at Gerar

Phichol served as chief captain of Abimelech's army in the Philistine city of Gerar. He accompanied Abimelech when the king made a covenant with Abraham at Beersheba. The title may have been hereditary or official rather than personal, as a Phichol also appears with an Abimelech in Isaac's time.
