King's help

Summary

Melchishua (also spelled Malchi-shua) was a son of King Saul who died alongside his father and brothers in the battle of Mount Gilboa against the Philistines.

Identity

Melchishua was one of the sons of King Saul, listed among his children alongside Jonathan, Ishvi, and Abinadab. His name means 'king's help' or 'my king is salvation.' He fell with his father and brothers Jonathan and Abinadab when the Philistines defeated Israel at Mount Gilboa. This catastrophic battle ended Saul's dynasty and paved the way for David's rise to kingship over all Israel.
