Two men named Melchi appear in the genealogy of Jesus recorded by Luke. The first was the son of Janna and father of Levi, positioned fourth in ascent from the Virgin Mary. The second was the son of Addi and father (or maternal grandfather) of Neri, who lived in a more remote generation before Zerubbabel. The name derives from Hebrew meaning 'my king.'
