Jorkoam

יָרְקְעָם/JOR-koh-am/

Paleness of the people or extended people

Summary

Either a descendant of Caleb the son of Hezron, or the name of a town in Judah near Hebron founded by Raham.

Identity

Jorkoam appears in 1 Chronicles 2:44 as the 'son' of Raham, among the descendants of Caleb the brother of Jerahmeel in the tribe of Judah. Some scholars understand 'father' in this genealogical context to mean 'founder,' suggesting Jorkoam was actually a town settled by Raham rather than a person. This interpretation is supported by similar usage of other names in the same genealogical passage. If it was a place, it would have been located in the region southeast of Hebron based on the associated names, though the site is otherwise unknown.
