Jeberechiah
יְבֶרֶכְיָהוּ/jeb-er-eh-KY-ah/
“Blessed by Jehovah”
Summary
The father of Zechariah who served as a witness to Isaiah's prophecy concerning Maher-shalal-hash-baz.
☩Identity
Jeberechiah (also rendered Berechiah in some versions) was the father of a Zechariah whom Isaiah the prophet took as one of two 'faithful witnesses' when recording his prophecy concerning the birth of his son Maher-shalal-hash-baz. This prophecy foretold the soon-coming destruction of Syria and Israel by Assyria. The combination of names Zechariah and Berechiah was apparently common in priestly families, as the prophet Zechariah was also the son of Berechiah.
