Father of Asaph

The most prominent Berechiah was the father of Asaph, the celebrated musician and Levite who bore the ark to the tent prepared for it by David. This name is sometimes spelled Berachiah.

Several other men bore this name: a son of Meshillemeth who helped release Judahite captives during the reign of Ahaz; a brother of Zerubbabel of the royal line of Judah; a son of Asa who dwelt in Jerusalem after the exile; a doorkeeper for the ark; and the father of Meshullam who helped rebuild Jerusalem's walls.
