Habaziniah
חֲבַצִּנְיָה/hab-uh-zih-NY-uh/
“Possibly lamp of Jehovah or collection of Jehovah”
Summary
Habaziniah was the grandfather of Jaazaniah, the chief of the Rechabites whom Jeremiah tested with the offer of wine in the Temple.
☩Head of the Rechabites
Habaziniah was the father of Jeremiah (a Rechabite, not the prophet) and grandfather of Jaazaniah, who was the leader of the Rechabite community in the time of the prophet Jeremiah. When God instructed Jeremiah to test the Rechabites by offering them wine, it was Jaazaniah son of Jeremiah son of Habaziniah who led them. The Rechabites's faithful refusal to drink wine, honoring their ancestor Jonadab's command, became a rebuke to Judah's unfaithfulness to God's commands.
