Gashmu
גַּשְׁמוּ/GASH-moo/
“Extended form of Geshem (rain)”
Summary
An alternate form of Geshem, the Arabian who opposed Nehemiah's rebuilding of Jerusalem's walls.
☩Opposition to Nehemiah
Gashmu (also called Geshem) was an Arab leader who, along with Sanballat the Horonite and Tobiah the Ammonite, opposed Nehemiah's work of rebuilding Jerusalem's walls. He spread false rumors that Nehemiah was planning rebellion against the Persian king. The name Gashmu appears to be an extended form of Geshem, with the -u termination found in Nabatean proper names.
