Gaddi

גַּדִּי/GAD-eye/

My fortune

Summary

Son of Susi who represented the tribe of Manasseh among the twelve spies sent to explore Canaan.

One of the Twelve Spies

When Moses sent twelve men to spy out the land of Canaan, Gaddi was chosen as the representative from the tribe of Manasseh. His name, meaning 'my fortune,' reflects the hopeful expectation parents often expressed in naming their children. Unlike Caleb and Joshua, Gaddi presumably brought back a fearful report that discouraged the congregation from entering the promised land.
