Summary

The name of two or three individuals whose families returned from Babylonian captivity.

Returned Exiles

The 'children of Ater' appear in the lists of those who returned from Babylon. One family numbered ninety-eight persons and was descended from Hezekiah (possibly indicating royal lineage). Another group consisted of gatekeepers. A leader named Ater was also among those who sealed the covenant under Nehemiah.
