Summary
The ancestor of a large family that returned from the Babylonian exile, whose name is also given as Adonijah in Nehemiah.
☩Identity
Adonikam was the head of an Israelite family whose descendants returned from Babylon in significant numbers. The family name appears in the lists of returning exiles, with 666 members according to Ezra (655 in some manuscripts of Nehemiah) returning with Zerubbabel in 536 BC. Later, three of his direct descendants—Eliphelet, Jeuel, and Shemaiah—returned with sixty additional male family members under Ezra.
