Summary

Traps and snares in Scripture represent both physical hunting devices and figuratively the schemes of the wicked or temptations that ensnare the unwary.

Figurative Usage

Scripture often uses trap and snare imagery for spiritual dangers. The wicked lay snares for the righteous. The fear of man brings a snare. Idolatry becomes a snare to Israel. Paul warns that those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare. The psalmist prays, 'Keep me from the snares they have laid for me.'
