Javelin(lance)
Summary
A light throwing spear used as a weapon of war in ancient Israel, notably employed by Saul in his attempts to kill David.
☩Biblical Usage
The javelin (Hebrew chanith) was a light, flexible spear often used for throwing, as distinct from the heavier lance (romach) used by heavily armed troops. King Saul famously used a javelin in his repeated attempts to pin David to the wall (1 Samuel 18:10-11; 19:9-10; 20:33). Goliath carried a javelin slung between his shoulders (1 Samuel 17:6). The weapon is mentioned among the armaments gathered by Gog's forces (Ezekiel 39:9).
