Summary

A heavy war-club or mallet used as a weapon, employed metaphorically by Jeremiah for God's instrument of judgment.

Instrument of Judgment

God calls Babylon His 'battle-ax and weapons of war,' declaring: 'With you I will shatter nations, with you I will destroy kingdoms.' The same nation that served as God's instrument would itself be destroyed when its purpose was fulfilled.
