Identity

The Susanchites were among the nations that the Assyrian king Asnapper (Ashurbanipal) transported and settled in Samaria after the deportation of the northern Israelites. The name designates either the inhabitants of the city of Susa or those of the region of Susiana. They are mentioned along with other transplanted peoples who wrote to King Artaxerxes opposing the rebuilding of Jerusalem.
