Elonites

הָאֵלֹנִי (ha-Eloni)/EE-lon-ites/

Descendants of Elon (oak or terebinth)

Summary

The Elonites were a clan within the tribe of Zebulun, descended from Elon, one of Zebulun's sons. They are mentioned in the census of Israel's tribes recorded in Numbers 26.

Tribal Lineage

The Elonites traced their descent from Elon, one of the three sons of Zebulun (Gen 46:14). In the census recorded in Numbers 26, the tribe of Zebulun was divided into three clans based on Zebulun's sons: 'of Sered, the family of the Sardites: of Elon, the family of the Elonites: of Jahleel, the family of the Jahleelites' (Num 26:26). This family structure determined inheritance rights and military organization within the tribe.
