“Scorching, blight”
Summary
The scorching of crops by hot winds, one of the covenant curses for disobedience and a sign of divine judgment.
☩Covenant Curse
Blasting and mildew were among the curses that would come upon Israel if they disobeyed God's commands. The effect is produced upon grain or plants by the hot east winds from the Arabian desert, which usually blow for two or three days; if they come in spring near ripening time, grain is turned yellow and does not mature. Solomon prayed that when such calamities came and the people repented, God would hear and forgive.
