A fragrant wood mentioned in Scripture, prized for its aromatic qualities.

Biblical Reference

Balaam, compelled to bless rather than curse Israel, described their tents as 'lign aloes which the LORD hath planted, and as cedar trees beside the waters' (Numbers 24:6). The 'lign aloes' (Hebrew 'ahalim') refers to the fragrant aloe-wood or eaglewood (Aquilaria agallocha), native to India and Southeast Asia, prized in the ancient world for its aromatic qualities.
