Summary

The fruit of the date palm, one of the most important food sources in the ancient Near East.

Palm Trees and Dates

The date palm was one of the most valuable trees in Palestine and surrounding regions. Though the specific fruit is rarely mentioned by name in Scripture, palm trees are prominent. Jericho was called 'the city of palm trees.' Deborah judged Israel under a palm tree. Palms were carved in Solomon's temple and used in the Feast of Tabernacles.
