Charitableness

/CHAIR-ih-tuh-buhl-ness/

Summary

The virtue of showing love and kindness toward others, including forgiveness, generosity of judgment, and covering the faults of others rather than exposing them.

Covering Offenses

Scripture teaches that hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all sins. The charitable person does not repeatedly bring up past wrongs but seeks reconciliation. One who covers a transgression seeks love, while one who repeats a matter separates close friends.

Judging Rightly

Jesus warned against harsh judgment, teaching that with the same measure we judge others, we will be judged. Before pointing out the speck in another's eye, we must first remove the beam from our own. True charitableness requires self-examination before criticism of others.
