The tabernacle was the first divinely designed structure in Israel, with detailed specifications given to Moses. Solomon's temple represented the pinnacle of Israelite architecture, employing Phoenician craftsmen and materials from Lebanon. Herod's temple was even more magnificent in its stonework. Private homes were typically simple mud-brick structures with flat roofs.
