Tochen

תֹּכֶן/TOH-ken/

Task; measure

Summary

A town in the territory of Simeon mentioned only in the Chronicles genealogies.

Biblical Reference

Tochen is listed among the towns of Simeon along with Rimmon and Ashan. The name does not appear in Joshua's parallel list of Simeonite cities, though the Septuagint in that passage has a similar name, suggesting the Hebrew text may have suffered a copyist's omission. The site has not been identified with certainty.

Key verses:1 Chronicles 4:32

Possible Identification

Some scholars suggest Tochen may be another name for Ether, located in the Shephelah or 'low hills' between the mountains of Judah and the maritime plain. Others connect it with Telem or Telaim mentioned elsewhere.
