☩Location

Ether was a city in the Shephelah (low country) of Judah, listed between Libnah and Ashan. It was subsequently assigned to the tribe of Simeon, whose territory lay within Judah's borders. The site has been identified with Khirbet el-Atr, near Beit Jibrin, described as having ancient cisterns, foundations, and quarried rock. In the parallel list of Simeonite cities in Chronicles, Tochen is substituted for Ether.
