Mizar

מִצְעָר

Little, Small

Summary

A small hill near Mount Hermon mentioned in the psalmist's exile lament.

Psalm Reference

'O my God, my soul is cast down within me: therefore will I remember thee from the land of Jordan, and of the Hermonites, from the hill Mizar' (Psalm 42:6). The psalmist, exiled to the northern region near Hermon, remembered Zion from this 'little hill.' Some interpret Mizar as 'smallness' describing his diminished state.
