En Hakkore

עֵין הַקּוֹרֵא/en-hak-KOR-ay/

Fountain of the one who called

Summary

A spring that God caused to burst forth at Lehi in answer to Samson's cry when he was parched with thirst after slaying a thousand Philistines.

Origin

After Samson slew a thousand Philistines with the jawbone of a donkey, he became desperately thirsty and cried out to the Lord. God split open the hollow place in the rock at Lehi, and water came forth. Samson named the spring En-hakkore ('fountain of the caller') because God had answered his cry. The spring was still there 'unto this day' when the account was written.
