Chun

כּוּן/KOON/

Uncertain; possibly 'founding'

Summary

A Syrian city from which David took great quantities of bronze after defeating Hadadezer, called Berothai in the parallel account.

Biblical Context

Chun is mentioned as one of the cities of Hadadezer, king of Zobah, from which David procured brass (bronze) for building the Temple. It is named alongside Tibhath as sources of this valuable metal. In the parallel account in 2 Samuel 8:8, these cities are called Betah and Berothai respectively. Some identify it with Conna mentioned in the Antonine Itinerary as situated between Laodicea and Baalbek.
