Charashim was a valley (Hebrew 'ge,' meaning ravine) inhabited by descendants of Joab of the tribe of Judah. The name means 'craftsmen' and reflects the occupational specialty of its residents as artificers. After the Captivity, it was inhabited by Benjamites and lay not far from Jerusalem.

Geographical Identification

The Talmud identifies the valley of Charashim as consisting of Lod and Ono. These locations place it in the undulating ground at the back of the plain of Sharon, east of Jaffa, in the depression now marked by Wady hazeirah.
