Place in Southern Palestine

Bered was a location in the south of Canaan, between which and Kadesh lay the well Lahai-roi where Hagar encountered the angel of the Lord. Some scholars identify it with the ancient city of Elusa (modern el-Khulasah), about twelve miles south of Beersheba.

A man named Bered appears in the genealogy of Ephraim as a descendant of Shuthelah. He is possibly identical with Becher mentioned in Numbers 26:35.
