Summary

A city in the southern portion of Judah's territory, in the region later assigned to Simeon.

Location

Amam was situated in the southern part of Judah's tribal territory, listed between Hazor and Shema. This area was later assigned to Simeon from Judah's inheritance. The site was probably located about midway along the southern border between the Mediterranean Sea and the Dead Sea. Some scholars believe that the name should be read in connection with the preceding "Hazor," yielding "Hazor-Amam" as a single place name identical with Kerioth-hezron.
