Summary

An alternate spelling of Zerah, the son of Judah and Tamar, whose twin birth involved the famous red thread incident.

The Twin Birth

Zarah (Zerah) was one of the twins born to Judah by his daughter-in-law Tamar. During the birth, Zarah put out his hand first and the midwife tied a scarlet thread on it. But he drew back his hand and his brother Perez was born first, becoming the ancestor of David.
