Tiberius succeeded Augustus as emperor in AD 14 and reigned until AD 37. Luke dates John the Baptist's ministry to 'the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar.' Jesus's ministry, crucifixion, and resurrection all occurred during Tiberius's reign. When Pharisees tested Jesus about paying tribute, they showed Him a denarius bearing the image of Tiberius.
