Shinab

/SHY-nab/

Summary

The king of Admah at the time of Chedorlaomer's invasion in the days of Abraham.

King of Admah

Shinab was the king of Admah, one of the five cities of the plain (including Sodom and Gomorrah) attacked by the coalition of four eastern kings led by Chedorlaomer. When the eastern kings conquered the region, Shinab was among the defeated rulers. The subsequent raid by Abraham rescued the captives, including Lot. The meaning of his name has been variously interpreted as 'father's tooth,' 'splendor of the father,' or connected to words for serpent or elephant.
