Shethar

/SHEE-thar/

Summary

One of the seven princes of Persia and Media who had direct access to King Ahasuerus (Xerxes) and held the highest positions in the kingdom.

Position at Court

Shethar was one of the seven princes of Persia and Media who 'saw the king's face' and occupied the chief seats in the kingdom. When Queen Vashti refused the king's summons during the great feast, Ahasuerus consulted these seven wise men who knew law and judgment to determine what should be done. Their counsel led to Vashti's removal from her royal position and ultimately to Esther's elevation as queen.
