רְעֵלָיָה/ree-el-AY-yah/

Fearer of Jehovah

Summary

Reelaiah was one of the leaders who returned from Babylon with Zerubbabel, also called Raamiah in Nehemiah.

Return from Exile

Reelaiah was one of the twelve chiefs who returned with Zerubbabel from the Babylonian captivity. His name appears in Ezra 2:2. In the parallel passage in Nehemiah 7:7, the same person appears to be called Raamiah, which is likely a variant form of the same name. The name Reelaiah means 'fearer of Jehovah' or 'bearer of Jehovah.'
