Jehoaddan

יְהוֹעַדָּן/jeh-HOH-ad-an/

Whom Jehovah adorns

Summary

A woman of Jerusalem who was the wife of King Joash and mother of King Amaziah of Judah.

Identity

Jehoaddan (also spelled Jehoaddin) was a woman of Jerusalem who became queen to King Joash (Jehoash) and mother of King Amaziah of Judah (2 Kings 14:2; 2 Chronicles 25:1). She appears to have survived her husband, who was assassinated by his servants. Her character may perhaps be inferred from the partially good conduct of her son, who 'did what was right in the sight of the Lord, yet not with a perfect heart.'
