Japhlet
יַפְלֵט/JAF-let/
“He escapes or deliverer”
Summary
A son of Heber and descendant of Asher whose family settled in the territory between Ephraim and Dan.
☩Identity and Descendants
Japhlet was the son of Heber and great-grandson of Asher, with several sons listed in the genealogy. His name means 'deliverer' or 'he escapes.' A branch of his descendants, the Japhletites, settled along the border between Ephraim and Dan, near the road to Jaffa, apparently east of Beth-horon. Some scholars view this as a trace of a petty aboriginal Canaanite tribe rather than descendants of the Asherite Japhlet.
