Summary

A Levite, son of Kohath and grandson of Levi, whose descendants included Korah of the rebellion.

Genealogy

Izhar was the second son of Kohath, making him a grandson of Levi. His brothers were Amram (father of Moses and Aaron), Hebron, and Uzziel. Through Izhar descended the Izharite division of the Kohathite Levites.

Notable Descendants

Korah, who led the infamous rebellion against Moses, was a son of Izhar. Despite Korah's sin and judgment, the Korahites survived and later became prominent in temple worship. Several psalms bear the inscription 'of the sons of Korah.'
