Contraction of Hodaviah: praise of Jehovah

A Levite whose descendants returned from Babylon; another form of the name Hodaviah.

Identity

Hodevah appears in Nehemiah 7:43 among the Levites who returned from Babylon. The name is a contracted form of Hodaviah (Ezra 2:40), meaning 'praise of Jehovah.' The seventy-four Levites descended from him helped restore temple services in Jerusalem.
