Helez

חֵלֶץ/HEE-lez/

Loins or strength

Summary

Helez was one of David's thirty mighty warriors, an Ephraimite from Pelon who commanded the seventh monthly division; another Helez appears in Judah's genealogy.

David's Warrior and Captain

Helez the Paltite (or Pelonite) was one of David's elite warriors known as "the thirty" and later commanded the seventh monthly division of the army. He is called an Ephraimite, though "Pelonite" likely refers to his hometown Pelon, which some identify with Beth-pelet in southern Judah. The designation "Paltite" appears to be a variant or corruption of "Pelonite."
