Ephah
עֵיפָה/EE-fuh/
“Gloom or darkness”
Summary
A name borne by a son of Midian whose descendants became a tribe mentioned in prophecy, and by two members of the tribe of Judah.
☩Son of Midian
Ephah was the first of five sons of Midian, who was a son of Abraham by Keturah. Isaiah prophesies that 'the dromedaries of Midian and Ephah' will come to Jerusalem bearing gold and incense in the messianic age, along with the flocks of Kedar and the rams of Nebaioth. This identifies his descendants as a tribe of camel-herding traders in the region east of the Dead Sea.
