Genealogy

Eker was a Jerahmeelite, a descendant of Judah. He was the youngest of the three sons of Ram, who was himself a grandson of Hezron. The name means 'root' or 'one rooted up and transplanted,' a term used metaphorically in Hebrew for a resident foreigner.
