Bithiah
בִּתְיָה/bith-EYE-uh/
“Daughter of Yahweh”
Summary
A daughter of Pharaoh who married Mered of Judah, apparently a convert to the worship of Yahweh.
☩Egyptian Princess
Bithiah was a daughter of an unnamed Pharaoh who married Mered, a descendant of Judah. Her name, meaning 'daughter of Yahweh,' suggests she was a convert from Egyptian idolatry to the worship of Israel's God. The fact that Mered's other wife is distinguished as 'the Jewess' supports this interpretation. Like Ruth, she apparently renounced her homeland to take an Israelite husband and accept Israel's God as her own.
