Akan

עֲקָן/AY-kan/

Twisted or sharp-sighted

Summary

A Horite descendant of Esau through Seir, also known as Jaakan or Jakan in other biblical passages.

Identity

Akan was the last named of the three sons of Ezer, who was himself a son of the Horite Seir of Edom. The Horites were the original inhabitants of the region of Seir before Esau's descendants displaced them. Akan is elsewhere called Jaakan in Chronicles, and the name appears in connection with the wells of Bene-jaakan where the Israelites camped during the wilderness wanderings.
