Needle

Summary

The needle in Scripture appears most famously in Jesus' teaching about how hard it is for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.

The Eye of a Needle

Jesus declared that it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God. This vivid image emphasizes the impossibility of salvation by human effort and the difficulty posed by wealth. Various attempts have been made to explain away the difficulty, such as suggesting a small gate called 'the needle's eye,' but these lack historical support. Jesus' point is that what is impossible with men is possible with God.
