Protective armor made of metal scales or rings worn to cover the torso, as worn by Goliath and later offered by Saul to David.

Biblical Examples

Goliath's coat of mail weighed five thousand shekels of bronze, demonstrating his formidable armament. Saul offered his own armor including a coat of mail to David before his battle with Goliath, but David rejected it as untested. King Ahab was struck by an arrow that penetrated between the joints of his armor.
