Description

Chrysoprasus is named from Greek words meaning 'golden leek,' describing its greenish-golden color resembling leek juice with golden spots. The ancient stone was a translucent Indian gem, possibly a species of beryl. The modern chrysoprase is an apple-green variety of chalcedony or agate, colored by oxide of nickel.
