Arrest

/a-REST/

Summary

The act of seizing or taking into custody, most significantly seen in the arrest of Jesus in Gethsemane.

The Arrest of Jesus

When Judas withdrew from the Last Supper to betray Jesus, the chief priests could not simply accompany him back to arrest Jesus publicly. Instead, they waited until night and came to Gethsemane with a band of soldiers, temple officers, and weapons. Jesus submitted voluntarily, healing the servant whose ear Peter severed, and rebuked those who came with swords as though against a robber.
