Frogs
“Frog (Egyptian origin)”
Summary
Amphibians that appeared as the second plague upon Egypt and symbolize unclean spirits in prophetic imagery.
☩The Plague of Frogs
Frogs constituted the second plague upon Egypt (Exodus 8:2-14). The Hebrew word tseparda' is Egyptian in origin, an undesigned coincidence confirming the authenticity of Exodus. Frogs swarmed from the Nile, covering the land, entering houses, beds, ovens, and kneading bowls. Pharaoh's magicians could imitate this plague but could not remove it. Only when Moses prayed did the frogs die, and they were gathered into heaps, causing the land to stink. Psalms 78:45 and 105:30 commemorate this devastating judgment.
☩Prophetic Symbolism
In Revelation 16:13, three unclean spirits 'like frogs' proceed from the mouths of the dragon, the beast, and the false prophet. These frog-like spirits represent demonic deception gathering the nations for Armageddon. The symbolism is apt: frogs croak at night in marshes, and these unclean spirits teach lies amidst darkness and moral corruption. They form an awful parody of the Trinity—proud infidelity from the dragon, worldly power from the beast, and lying spiritualism from the false prophet.
