Boar(wild boar)

חֲזִיר/BOR/

Swine, pig

Summary

The wild pig mentioned in Scripture as a destructive animal that ravages vineyards, used metaphorically for Israel's enemies.

Biblical Reference

The boar appears only once in Scripture, in a psalm lamenting Israel's troubled state. The Psalmist describes how 'the boar out of the wood doth ravage it' in reference to Israel as God's vine being devastated by enemies like the Assyrians. Wild boars were common in Palestine, dwelling among the reeds in the Jordan valley and marshy places, and were extremely destructive to cultivated land.
