Summary

Partnership in Scripture refers to business associations and, more significantly, to spiritual fellowship and shared labor in the gospel.

Business Partnerships

James and John were partners with Simon in the fishing business. Such partnerships were common in trades requiring capital investment and shared labor. The Mosaic law implicitly recognized partnerships through regulations about shared property and joint ventures.

Key verses:Luke 5:10

Gospel Partnership

Paul frequently speaks of partnership (koinonia) in the gospel. The Philippians were partners in grace and in the furtherance of the gospel through their financial support and prayers. Philemon was a partner in faith. This spiritual partnership creates bonds transcending business relationships.
